| PALS Pet of the Month
Bruno Brutus Justice was adopted January 1, 2007 from the Atlanta Humane Society
with the goal of becoming my psychiatric service assistance canine. It was a challenging process of selection after four months of visitations of other canine competitors.
My associate, a former Police K-9 Officer chose Bruno. "My Justice", his nickname, has been a true gift from God. The first day at home he grabbed the tablecloth of course
with a full set of china for a "neat" trick. Then he moved forward in grabbing the goldfish bowl from the coffee table, tipped it over and instantly decided to have fish for dinner.
His grand finale involved unplugging the table lamp; however, his approach was to chew the cord while the lamp was still on! Well we made it through those 6 month old puppy blues and now he is the most attentive, devoted and obedient service canine towards me.
As a survivor of family/domestic violence and police misconduct, my ability to obtain justice and protection order was denied repetitively. Therefore, I chose to obtain my state and federal protection from future harm and injury by adopting an assistance canine rather than plea for a Temporary Protection Order (TPO). Unfortunately, I have more rights and redress with My Justice than by myself.
I have been able to grow emotionally and physically by his presence and care. My medication intake has decreased blood pressure decrease and has enhanced stabilizing my chronic stress disorder to the point that I am considering a return to self-employment as a Disability Advocate/Grants Writer. Bruno Brutus Justice has served to increase awareness about assistance and service animals for people with other types of disabilities in the Metro Atlanta, Georgia area; particularly in the ethnic and culturally diverse community.
He has been successful in breaking down barriers within the private, non-profit, religious and governmental sectors regarding federal ADA protection, accommodation and accessibility. Marta and Fulton County Courts were instrumental
in adjudicating the first criminal case involving harassment of an assistance animal.
This case serves as a precedent for others to pursue prosecution of criminal code 16-11.107.7 and to be respected as a victim of a violent crime by the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council of the State of Georgia, Victim’s Compensation Fund.
Bruno Brutus Justice and I are so very grateful to PALS dedication, commitment and service to our family. We feel a true sense of community and look forward to giving back by referring other disability canine teams and by assisting with fundraising. Indeed, My Justice is loving support to me and the community of admirers and advocates.
ARF and Woof Woof! And Liberty and Justice for All!
